Welcome to the Department of Nursing at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff (UAPB). As departmental faculty, staff and administration, we are honored that you have chosen this university to support the pursuit of your educational goals and nursing career aspirations. The Department of Nursing will host a site review for continuing accreditation of its baccalaureate nursing program.

You are invited to meet the visit team and share your comments about the program in person at a meeting scheduled for November 1, 2012, 3:00 PM at Caine-Gilleland Hall Room 107.

The Department of Nursing offers an eight semester and one summer session program that are approved by the Arkansas State Board of Nursing (ASBN). The program is accredited by the National League for Nursing and the Accrediting Commission (NLNAC). The program offers the Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing and prepares students for the practice of professional nursing in a variety of healthcare settings. The basic liberal arts and science courses undertaken at the lower-division level provide the foundation for the nursing courses that promote understanding of individuals as they exist in health and in illness.

Students enrolled in the Bachelor of Science degree program may progress through one of two tracks. The Generic Track includes those students who are studying to achieve their B.S.N. degree and initial licensure as a Registered Nurse. The Nursing faculty is committed to the concept of educational mobility. As a result, the department offers educational tracks with advanced placement options for licensed practical nurses and registered nurses prepared at the associate degree and diploma levels and prepare students for graduate studies.

To facilitate educational mobility, students may transfer from other State Board approved Baccalaureate programs into this track. RN/BSN Completion Track students meet the same requirements within the program as generic students, but do so through advanced placement credits (see RN/BSN Completion Track).
