Audition Requirements - Vesper Choir

Students who wish to elect voice as an applied major may do so only after satisfactory performance of an audition with the applied teacher.  While many voice majors do not enter the university with a background in music reading and fundamentals, training in French, German and Italian, and a classical repertoire; they will be expected to develop all of these throughout their studies and to perform publicly each semester as well as perform a solo recital (or recitals, depending on degree plan) in partial fulfillment of graduation requirements.

UAPB’s vocal area in the department of music provides students with solid training in vocal technique and musicianship.  Students perform diverse repertoire in several languages and genres.  An emphasis on classical methods enables students to become versatile teachers and performers in their own communities and in the larger musical world.

UAPB audition requirements:  to audition to become a music major in voice and/or to audition for the Vesper Choir, students need to do the following:

  1. A semester before desired admission into the department and/or choir, schedule an audition date and time by calling the UAPB Dept. of Music at (870) 575-8905.

  2. Prepare at least two pieces to be sung with accompaniment.  Students MUST furnish sheet music for the pianist to use.  At least one song should be classical in nature.  For students wishing to become music majors, the classical piece must be composed specifically for solo voice and piano (not a choral piece).

  3. Dress professionally and arrive at the Dept. Music office an hour before the audition time to be able to warm up for the audition and fill out necessary paperwork.

  4. Besides singing solos, auditioning students will also be asked to vocalize and sight-read.
