TRIO Student Support Services


The TRIO Student Support Services Program is a federally-funded program that provides academic and other supportive services to eligible students enrolled at UAPB. More specifically, the program is designed to increase the retention and graduation rates of eligible students and foster an institutional climate supportive of the success of low-income and first-generation college students and individuals with disabilities through services such as those described below:

  • Instruction in reading, writing, mathematics, study skills, and other subjects necessary for success beyond secondary school
  • Personal counseling
  • Academic advise and assistance in course selection
  • Tutorial services and peer tutoring
  • Participation in cultural events and programs that are not traditionally available to disadvantaged students
  • Activities designed to acquaint students participating in the program with range of career options available
  • Activities designed to secure admission and financial assistance for enrollment in graduate and professional programs
  • Mentoring programs involving faculty or upper class students, or any combination of faculty members and upper-class students
  • Other activities designed to meet the purposes of the Student Services Program

Who is eligible to join Student Support Services?

To qualify to participate in the Student Support Services Program, you must meet any of the following criteria:

  • Low-Income. You are receiving financial aid such as Pell Grant, Student Loan, or Vocational Rehabilitation. You must also meet the federal government low-income requirements.
  • First Generation. This means that neither of your parents received a four-year college degree.
  • Disabled. You must have a documented physical or learning disability.

The overall mission of the program is to help students to complete studies successfully. Special Features of the Student Support Services Program include the following:

  • Individualized learning program
  • Individualized and group tutoring
  • Innovative instructional materials
  • Access to computers
  • Cultural activities
  • Book and Tuition Grants

The Student Support Services Program is located in 143 Corbin Hall.
