The Master of Science Degree in Addiction Studies Program is administered through the School of Arts and Sciences. The program helps to meet the needs of professionals from a wide range of backgrounds, especially those who currently provide addiction services or who have relevant professional experiences.
The Master of Science Degree in Addiction Studies is a research oriented, professional degree that prepares students for leadership roles in the intervention, prevention, and treatment (i.e., counseling services) of addictions (such as alcohol, tobacco, drugs, food, and gambling) as well as leadership roles in research, evaluation, and program management.
Students will learn how to manage addiction facilities and to develop new knowledge and skills needed to respond to the ever changing needs of their clients, customers, students, and/or others.
The master's degree program requires a total of thirty-six (36) semester hours. The courses include content that emphasizes both the prevention and the treatment (i.e., counseling) of addictions.
Funding for the Master of Science Degree in Addiction Studies Program and for the scholarships is provided by the Arkansas Master Tobacco Settlement Agreement and the Arkansas Department of Health and Human Services, Tobacco Prevention and Education Program.
