Honda Campus All-Star Challenge 2008

University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff will compete in the Honda Campus All-Star Challenge, the first-ever academic quiz competition for students at Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU’s).

Begun in 1989, over 50,000 students have competed in Honda Campus All-Star Challenge.  The questions cover everything: from traditional academic areas, including science, literature, history, geography, religion, philosophy, social sciences and the arts to current events, general knowledge, sports and popular culture.  African American history and culture is also featured.

University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff is among eighty-nine HBCU’s eligible for this year’s Honda Campus All-Star Challenge.  Sponsored by American Honda Motor Co., Inc., Honda Campus All-Star Challenge is sanctioned by the National Association for Equal Opportunity in Higher Education (NAFEO) and the Association of College Unions International (ACUI).

Competition at UAPB begins with the campus tournament, scheduled for Saturday, October 6, 2007 in the L. A. Davis Student Union 1-3:00 p.m.  All students who compete are eligible for selection as a member of the varsity squad.

Our varsity squad will advance to the National Championship Tournament, March 27 – March 31, 2008 in Orlando, FL.  The Nationals is the academic competition version of “March Madness.”  It features 320 HBCU students, all gathered at one location, competing for their 64 HBCU’s.

The 4-day Honda Campus All-Star Challenge Nationals involve much more than just the quiz games!  Students are treated to a once-in-a-lifetime experience including: gala banquets with speakers and performers; a 15,000 square-foot student union with food, games and activities; Orlando theme park tours; and most importantly, the opportunity to meet, connect with and “make friends for life” among the other participants.

Institutions at the Nationals compete for a share of $328,000 in institutional grants from American Honda Motor Co., Inc.

To sign-up for the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff’s Honda Campus All-Star Challenge competition, contact Zachariah G. Butler by October 3, 2007 deadline.
