UAPB’s Homecoming Celebration to begin October 13

PINE BLUFF, Ark. – The week-long Homecoming celebration at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff (UAPB) will begin October 13 with a gospel concert and end October 19 with an exciting game. The theme for this year is “Feel the Roar” according to Dr. Charles Colen, Homecoming Committee Chairperson.

Other activities for the week include events for students as well as alumni:

On Sunday, October 13, the Student Government Association (SGA) will sponsor a gospel extravaganza at 6:00 p.m. in the Hathaway-Howard Fine Arts Building. The concert is free and open to the public. Later that evening at 10 p.m., UPROAR, a late night homecoming kick-off, will be held around the W.E. O’Bryant Bell Tower.

Monday, October 14, Senior Stunt Night will be held at 7 p.m. in the Hathaway-Howard Fine Arts Building.

On Tuesday, October 15 at 10:00 a.m., the Black & Gold Pride Assembly will be held in the HPER Complex where academic classes will compete for the “best show” with UAPB spirit. That evening, a talent show will also be held in the L.A. Davis, Sr. Student Union Lounge at 7:00 p.m. Both events are free and open to the public.

On Wednesday, October 16, “Jazz in the Café” will be presented in the L.A. Davis, Sr., Student Union Cafeteria. The cost is $7.05 for non-meal plan diners. All alumni, students, family and friends are invited to attend this SGA sponsored event.

Continuing with Wednesday, Miss UAPB will be officially crowned during the Coronation Ceremony at 6:30 p.m., in the Kenneth L. Johnson, Sr., Health Physical Education Recreation (HPER) Complex. The Coronation Ball will begin immediately following the ceremony at the same location.

For alumni, the Homecoming Alumni Scholarship Golf Tournament will be held Thursday, October 17, at 8:30 a.m., at Harbor Oaks Golf Course. Registration information can be obtained by calling (870)575-8499.

The annual Street Jams and Bonfire will be held Thursday evening from 5 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. on the HPER Complex parking lot. Sponsored by Wal-Mart, this activity will include a variety of foods, vendors, outdoor games and a pep rally with the marching band. At 7:00 pm the UAPB/AM&N National Alumni Association will host a Mix and Mingle at the alumni house located 27 Watson boulevard.

On Friday, October 18, the Annual Alumni Assembly will be held at 10:00 a.m. in the HPER Arena. Following the Alumni Assembly, the National Alumni Association will sponsor a Young, Black and Bold event next to the student union and an Awards Luncheon at 12:30 pm in PJ’s event center. Tickets for the luncheon are $30 and can be purchased by calling (870) 536-2309.

At 4:00 p.m., the Lady Lions Soccer team will play Alabama A&M University at Pumphrey field. That evening at 7:00 p.m., the SGA will sponsor a Greek Show in the Pine Bluff Convention Center arena. Tickets are $10 in advance, $20 at the door and be purchased by calling (870)575-8360.

On the day of the game, Saturday, October 19, the Annual Homecoming Parade will begin at 10:00 a.m. in Downtown Pine Bluff.

Pre-game activities will begin at 12:30 p.m. in Golden Lion Stadium. Kick off time is 2:30 p.m. when the Golden Lions will play the Southern University Jaguars.

That evening at 7:00 p.m., high school bands will showcase their talent during the High School Band Exhibition in the HPER arena.
