Audition for the Vesper Choir
Interested students should contact the Music Department Office [870-575-7001] to set up an audition appointment. Students should prepare two (2) solo selections: 1. A solo that is classical, semi-classical, spiritual or an art song, It is preferred that the student not perform a service song (such as: “The Star Spangled Banner”, “Lift Every Voice and Sing”, “America”), or a voice part from a choral selection (unless it is the melody line and not an interior line—alto, tenor or bass line); 2. The second selection can be any song of the student’s choice that they feel best shows off the positive qualities of their voice. Your choir director, voice teacher, or other music professional can assist you in your selection and preparation. Students will perform their auditions for the directors and will be judged on: Intonation/tone quality, breath control, diction, preparation, appearance, sight reading and basic music knowledge, vocal quality, potential for blending, experience, musicality, etc.
Scholarships are available for participating in the Vesper Choir. Vesper Choir scholarships are tuition scholarships and can range up to 14 semester credit hours depending on the quality of the audition, academic standing coming from the high school, vocal/choral experience, the letter of recommendation, ACT/SAT scores and gpa. Scholarships are awarded for the academic year and are renewable each year provided that the student adheres to the rules and expectations as outlined in The Vesper Choir Handbook (all students admitted to the Choir will receive a copy). Admission into the Vesper Choir does not constitute admittance to the university. All requirements for admission must be cleared through the Office of Admissions.
