Dr. Demarr Woods is the Assistant Professor of High Brass and Music Theory at the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff.

Dr. Woods received his Bachelor of Music from Southeastern Louisiana University, Master of Music from Howard University, the prestigious Performer’s Diploma from the Peabody Conservatory of The Johns Hopkins University, and the Doctor of Arts in Music Performance and Pedagogy from the University of Northern Colorado.

Dr. Woods has been recognized as one of the nation’s foremost music educators.  Dr. Woods has received several teaching awards including the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Chancellor’s Distinguished Teaching Award and the Peabody Preparatory of The Johns Hopkins University’s Diversity in Teaching Award.

Dr. Woods has held teaching positions at the University of Northern Colorado, Howard University, Coppin State University, the Levine School of Music, and the Peabody Preparatory of Music. Dr. Woods has enjoyed performing and teaching throughout the U.S., Japan, China, and Thailand.

As a performer, Dr. Woods is currently Solo Cornet with the Natural State Brass Band based in Little Rock, AR. This ensemble was a recent prize winner at the North American Brass Band Association Championships in FortWayne, Indiana. Prior to joining the NSBB, Dr. Woods also served as Solo Cornet with the National Capital Band of the Salvation Army based in Washington, D.C.

As an orchestral performer, Dr. Woods has performed with Capital City Symphony, the National Capital Band of the Salvation Army, the Greeley Philharmonic, the American Studio Orchestra, and the Loveland Choral Society Orchestra. Dr. Woods has also performed in the pit-orchestra for musical theater productions of Big Fish and Willy Wonka.  

Dr. Woods has shared the stage with The Coaster’s, The Drifter’s, Wallace Roney, K.D. Lang, John Legend, Fred Wesley, Bill Pierce, and several others.

Dr. Woods’ primary teachers include, Dr. Bryan DePoy, Prof. Fred Irby III, Prof. Josef Burgstaller, Prof. Edward Hoffman, and Dr. John Adler.

Dr. Woods holds membership with the International Trumpet Guild, College Music Society, North American Brass Band Association, and the Historically Black Colleges and Universities National Consortium.

Dr. Demarr Woods is a Vincent Bach Trumpet Artist.
