Old Foes, Cotton Bowl Trip Highlight 2008 Golden Lion FB Schedule

PINE BLUFF, AR – Three opponents from the old Arkansas Intercollegiate Conference and a November trip to the Cotton Bowl in Dallas highlight the 2008 University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff Golden Lion football schedule released today by the athletic department.

Old AIC members Arkansas-Monticello (Aug. 30 in Pine Bluff), Henderson State (Sept. 6 in Arkadelphia, AR) and Central Arkansas (Sept. 13 in Little Rock, AR) are all three on the Golden Lions’ schedule for the first time since the 1994 season.

In addition, UAPB will also travel to Dallas during the Thanksgiving weekend to take on Texas Southern in the Cotton Bowl on Nov. 29.

“We’re extremely pleased with this year’s football schedule,” UAPB Director of Athletics Louis “Skip” Perkins said. “Last year, due to circumstances beyond our control, we only had three home games. Our great fans weren’t very happy, so this year we have scheduled six games at Golden Lion Stadium and two games in nearby Little Rock.”

After the three AIC retro contests, UAPB travels to Alcorn State (Sept. 20) and wraps up the month of September with a home contest against Alabama A&M (Sept. 27).

The Golden Lions will spend the entire month of October at home as Jackson State (Oct. 11), Prairie View A&M (Oct. 18) and Lincoln (Oct. 25) will invade Golden Lion Stadium. The Lincoln game will serve as UAPB’s annual homecoming contest.

Monte Coleman’s troops take to the road for consecutive weeks to begin November with trips to Southern in Baton Rouge, La. (Nov. 1) and Grambling State in Little Rock for the Delta Literacy Classic (Nov. 8).

Mississippi Valley State returns to Pine Bluff on Nov. 15, followed by UAPB’s trip to Dallas to wrap up the regular season.

“Even our road games are reasonably close this season,” Perkins said. “All in all, this is a schedule that should make everyone happy.”
