Dr. Richard Bailey brings a multifaceted background in music to the Sound Recording Technology program at UAPB. At The Cleveland Institute of Music he studied trumpet performance with Bernard Adelstein and James Darling of the Cleveland Orchestra, and audio recording with Tom Knab and Jack Renner of Telarc Records. While at CIM, Dr. Bailey began composition studies with Dr. Larry Baker. He went on to earn a Ph.D. in music composition at the University of Buffalo - studying composition with David Felder and Charles Wuorinen, and computer music with Peter Otto and Cort Lippe. Dr. Bailey also enjoyed a brief but intense period of study with Louis Andriessen at the Atlantic Center for the Arts. His compositions have been performed throughout much of the United States and in Europe, and his recent works span a multitude of genres - from concert music to jazz, and popular electronic music. Dr. Bailey has performed with the Pine Bluff Symphony Orchestra, the Pine Bluff Community Band, the Natural State Brass Band, the Capitol Brass Quintet, and in pit orchestras in productions at the Arts and Sciences Center of Pine Bluff, Argenta Community Theatre, Arkansas Shakespeare Theater, and at The Arkansas Repertory Theater.
